The World’s First Unmanned Cargo Plane Has Flown
Dronamics, the London-based unmanned cargo airline, has announced that its flagship aircraft, the Black Swan, completed its maiden flight successfully at Balchik airport in Bulgaria.
The Black Swan can carry 350 kg (770 lb) over a distance of up to 2,500 km (1,550 mi) — up to 80% faster, 50% cheaper and with up to 60% lower emissions than comparable aircraft in its class. These long-range drones make same-day delivery over long distances possible for pharmaceuticals, food, e-commerce goods and spare parts. Dronamics also states that it is the first licensed cargo drone airline in Europe and that IATA has entered into a global strategic partnership on unmanned aircraft.
Svilen Rangelov, co-founder and CEO of Dronamics, said that aircraft the size of a delivery van will be able to cross the whole of Europe in twelve hours, making air transport more efficient, more affordable and more accessible.
As the logistics sector accelerates its use of unmanned aircraft, changes in transport systems and product prices will be felt worldwide, Türkiye included. The effect on today’s more economical modes will not be immediate, but the prospect of faster, more efficient systems is already showing the industry where to invest.
