Creative Solutions in the Logistics Sector

Strategies for coping with restrictions
The embargoes of recent years have brought change and new challenges to logistics. As a logistics company we remain firmly committed to flexibility and to putting the customer first, so that service continues uninterrupted whatever the conditions.
At ASR Transit we work to earn our customers’ trust and to contribute to their success. To reduce the impact of restrictions and to carry cargo safely, we act flexibly and innovatively, and we maintain our commitment to being a valuable business partner.
To meet our customers’ needs and deliver their goods securely, we develop strategies that work around restrictions by using alternative routes. These strategies raise service quality and strengthen our partnerships at the same time.
A recent history of restrictions and embargoes
- The United States and Cuba (1960s to the present). The embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba began in the Cold War, when Washington sought to bring down the Cuban government through commercial, economic and diplomatic sanctions.
- The UN embargo on Iraq (1990–2003). After Iraq invaded Kuwait, the United Nations applied comprehensive sanctions, using them as leverage to force Iraq to destroy its weapons and end its nuclear programme.
- Mutual sanctions between the EU and Russia (2014 to the present). Following the annexation of Crimea and the intervention in Ukraine, the European Union and other Western states imposed economic sanctions on Russia, which responded with counter-measures including restrictions on certain food products.
- The United States and Iran (2018 to the present). After Washington withdrew unilaterally from the Iran nuclear agreement in 2018 and reinstated its sanctions, a broad economic embargo on Iran resumed.
Türkiye’s restrictions on Israel
- Diplomatic tension and political restrictions. Diplomatic tension and political disagreement between Türkiye and Israel can lead to trade relations being limited or suspended. After the Mavi Marmara incident of 2010, for example, relations deteriorated sharply and Türkiye applied various diplomatic restrictions.
- Limits on military and security cooperation. Türkiye may suspend or restrict defence cooperation; after the Mavi Marmara incident it suspended military cooperation and cancelled joint exercises.
- Commercial and economic restrictions. Measures may include limiting trade relations or the trade of specific products. Such steps usually take the form of restrictions on particular sectors or goods rather than a complete trade embargo.
Whatever the political weather, our task remains the same: to find the route that keeps your cargo moving.
