In The First 4 Months Of The Year, 57 Percent Of Turkey’s Exports Were Realized Sea Transportation
57 percent of exports were realized by sea transportation.
According to the compilation made by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey’s exports reached 80 billion 869 million dollars in the January-April period.
During this period, most of the foreign trade was carried out by sea. The value of the exports carried by the ships was 45 billion 735 million 344 thousand dollars. Last year, that figure was $50.3 billion. The share of the sea route in total exports was 57 percent. The reason was given that the prices of maritime transportation were affordable compared to other transportation models.
Road exports rank second
After the sea route, the land route was used the most in foreign trade. In the first 4 months, exports by land were 27 billion 65 million 135 thousand dollars. The share of this mode of transportation in the total was 33.5 percent.
In the said period, the use of airlines in exports increased despite the partial decline in total foreign sales. Export revenues made by air in the first 4 months increased by 11.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and rose to 7 billion 22 million 826 thousand dollars.
On the other hand, there was a decrease in railway transportation in parallel with the decrease in total exports. In the January-April period, the income of exports carried by trains amounted to 794 million 828 thousand dollars. Other export revenues were $251 million.
In the aforementioned period, Turkey’s imports of 124 billion 313 million dollars were taken by sea with a large share of 63 billion 722 million dollars. It was followed by the highway with $22.8 billion, the airline with $19.1 billion, and the railroad with $746.5 million. Other modes of transportation approached 18 billion dollars.
